When I was creating the fanlisting all those years ago, I played around with many different titles. In the end, I decided to use the same one that Europa did since it fit the series so well: Are we really alive? Brought together by the emptiness they feel in their own lives, that question is one that Shinobu and Nishino struggle to answer. It's a question that many people—young and old—return to throughout their lives, I think. The finale of Kokoro Kikai provides no clear answer to it, but it does provide a comforting thought: none of us have to bear our burdens on our own, for none of us are truly alone.

This fanlisting is maintained using Enthusiast. It was approved by Anime Fanlistings and opened on May 15, 2009.
